I have just seen something about July, 1st in Montreal on TV.

On that day - every year about 200,000 people move house at the same time.....sounds really mad.

So why do all(?) people move house every year? And why on the same day?

I have heard that René Levesque decided in 1973 that all rental agreements start and end on that day...for whatever reason!

I have been living in Quebec for many years now and I love the moving policy. It is great to co-ordinate things but we move anytime we wish really. On moving day there are rules to assist people to get their move done. for instance...on luly 1st you must have one room in the address empty so the new tenant can start moving in. There are all kinds of rules to assist in the process. Hope this helps in some small way.By the way...we dont move every year lol Kathleen
